Introduction

Back in April 2008 we welcomed our third son, Finlay, into the world. Although we knew he had some health problems we had no idea of the seriousness, the rarity and the sheer challenge his condition was going to prove to be. The next few years and those yet to come were going to be one hell of a rollercoaster ride.

He is now a happy, and for the most part, healthy boy nearing his 3rd birthday. The last three years have been tough at times but ultimately really rewarding and it's great to be able to post about our successes in raising this very special boy.

This blog is to record the events so far before my confused and exhausted brain reduces them to vague memories and to update his ongoing progress as he grows into a happy boy living as normal a life as we can give him.

About the blog

I am the proud father of three children, one of whom has a rare condition called pancreatic agenesis, which means he was born without a pancreas. He was also born without a gall bladder (hence the two organs short bit!) and with multiple heart defects.

I've read a number of great, thought-provoking, funny and informative blogs by diabetics or parents of diabetics and thought with my son's condition I could write one with a slightly unique viewpoint. With such a rare disease this may become one of the least read blogs on the web, or it may hold some interest for those in the diabetes world, even if just as a curiosity.

And perhaps, for some parents desperately searching the net for anything they can find when they are at their lowest and feeling utterly alone, as we were a few years back, it might offer hope.
